About Maktabah Bookshop

Maktabah Bookshop is a Muslim-owned independent bookstore specializing in Islamic children's books, diverse Muslim-authored literature, and educational resources for Muslim families. We are based in Richardson, Texas, and serve customers across the United States through our online store, school book fairs, and community events.

The name maktabah is the Arabic word for library or bookshop — a space where knowledge lives and where reading is understood as an act of worship. That conviction shapes everything we carry. Every book on our shelves has been personally reviewed and selected because it earns a place in a Muslim child's home, classroom, or library.

What We Carry

Our catalog spans board books for babies learning their first words in Arabic and English, picture books that introduce children to Allah's names and the prophets' stories, middle grade novels featuring Muslim protagonists navigating identity and belonging, young adult fiction by Muslim authors, and adult titles on Islamic scholarship, spirituality, history, and women in Islam.

We carry titles from Ruqaya's Bookshelf, Learning Roots, Imam Ghazali Publishing, Harry N. Abrams, HarperCollins, G.P. Putnam's Sons, Penguin Random House, and dozens of independent Muslim publishers whose books deserve wider reach.

Who We Serve

Maktabah serves Muslim homeschooling families, Islamic schools, weekend madrasas, Muslim parents who want their children to see themselves in the stories they read, and anyone looking for books that reflect both the diversity of the global Muslim community and the depth of the Islamic tradition. We also serve school librarians, teachers, and gift-givers who want to make thoughtful, meaningful choices.

School Book Fairs

Maktabah brings curated Islamic book fairs to Islamic schools and community organizations across the United States. Our book fairs are a different experience from what families typically encounter — every title has been selected with intention, and our goal is to send children home with books they will actually read. Our Commitment

We believe that representation in children's literature is not a trend — it is a necessity. Muslim children deserve to grow up seeing themselves in stories that reflect their faith, their families, and their full humanity. And Muslim adults deserve access to books that take their intellectual and spiritual lives seriously. Maktabah exists to make both of those things easier.

We are a small, independent business. Every order matters to us, and we are grateful for every customer who chooses to support Muslim-owned commerce and the authors and publishers behind these books.
